Marie Grande

Marie A. Grande, a CDTOA member since 1983, passed away into heaven to join her beloved husband Bud on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2011.
She spent her life loving people well because, after all, Marie never met a stranger.  She could light up a room with her beautiful blue eyes.  Marie was born October 2, 1924 in Troy, Idaho to a family of Swedish immigrants, Ernest and Helen Anderson. She was the oldest of three brothers and an adoring sister.  At age 16, she left the family farm to head toward the coast of Oregon.  With a can-do attitude and a heart full of faith, there was nothing that could stop her.  She became one of the original welders in World War II, working on an all men crew, to craft hot metal into victory ships.  There she met Bud (Arthur) Grande, and they were married April 20, 1944, in Portland, Oregon.

Marie was a leader throughout her life.  At home, she blended work, love and nurture to her three children, Pam, Marty and David.  She was always the hardest worker and the best cheerleader.  Marie worked side by side with Bud in the trucking industry, and loved the team they created.  Later she became affectionately known as the First Lady of Trucking as she led the state-wide association of California Dump Truck Owners as President. 

Marie and Bud shared 67 years of marriage, and are together again dancing to “In the Mood” in heaven.  Marie is survived by Pam and Steve Staniland; Marty and Brooke Grande, and Dave and Roni Grande.  Missing Grandma will be Jeff and Stephanie Staniland (Kailee and Klay); Jon Staniland (Talan) and James Staniland; Pat and Liz Grande (Ayden), Andy and Megan Grande, and Katie Grande. 

A memorial service was be held, Sunday (her favorite day!), January 15 at 1 p.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, 721 E. Doris Avenue, Oxnard, CA 93030.  
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, c/o Pam Staniland at 4870 Ellington Street, Ventura, CA  93003.  Special thanks to the Victoria Care Center for making Mom feel like your family also.
